Thamesmead is engaging local communities to find new ways of improving and enhancing London’s green infrastructure. As part of this it is vital that we are able to consistently assess the biodiversity value of these nature-based interventions. However, determining the ecological condition and ‘value’ of habitats, such as grasslands or woodlands, has, historically, been difficult and often subjective. Research is being undertaken to compare the three most common metrics used to assess habitats in London, and assesses how to maximise the value of each of these tools.
